Kids of the early 90’s through to 2011 when the old railway station building was deemed uninhabitable will remember tearing around Science Alive!, playing with all the excellent exhibits. For those brave enough there was also the vertical drop slide
It has been a true loss since it closed! Thankfully plans were announced January 2016 for Science Alive! to open in a new building in the upcoming Durham Street Law Courts site.
Set to open early 2018, it will be twice the size of the old site and most excitingly, will feature a domed planetarium!
We can’t wait for it to reopen! What are your memories of Science Alive!? Did you have a favourite exhibit?
**UPDATE** Sad news – Science Alive has been unable to follow through on the plan and are currently instead progressing with outreach programmes and events. Follow updates on what they are now up to on their website at https://www.sciencealive.co.nz/
