Uber is now available in Christchurch!

The wait is over Christchurch – Uber is now available here! Uber are also offering your first five rides for free.

Uber was launched in the US in 2009 so it certainly has taken a long time to make it here. The New Zealand Taxi Federation seems to be making a fuss over this (and why wouldn’t they given this means competition), around safety concerns and regulation of the service. Christchurch is being used to trial a new “fast track” system to become a driver which takes six days and a cost of $20. In other places around New Zealand where you can become a driver using Uber, it costs over $2000 to apply and can take three months.

Will you be using Uber? Are you considering becoming a driver?
